In very gloomy conditions I managed to find the Snow Bunting flock that Chris Gibbard found yesterday.I reckon there are 40+ birds which is certainly the most I've seen in Kent.Above are two very dodgy pictures which were taken at about 3.45.If you get a chance go and see them they really are great little birds.I caught up with them on the beach and the dunes area underneath the pumping station.
"Accidentally" came across your blog about Snow Buntings which reminded me of my first encounter with this species in 1956. Cycled to Reculver (from Canterbury) on a bleak mid Winter day, with occasional snow showers. Walked along the seawall to the East and there on the shingle was a flock of about 30 buntings. The combination of the driving snow and these birds has stayed with me over the years--magic! Now living in Tasmania, still birding. Many thanks, Alan Fletcher. PS My nephew, Stuart played for Kent 2nd XI a few years back--saw your interest in Kent cricket.
